Forest In A Box

$77.00

The name was given to it by one of my customers.

In order for this project to succeed during the winter, you must have a window or space with southern exposure. You also need to have the space to put the 6 trays which are 9″X9″ each and you should be able to water them about twice a week.

During the Spring and summer you can just grow these cuttings on your deck.

I have cuttings from OP-367, DN-34 and Gazi,  If you do not chose any, you will get OP-367 cuttings.

The trays are shipped flat. along with push-lock screws and posts (matched pairs). To assemble the trays just fold the large flap up, fold the two side flaps in and match the holes. Now insert a post in a hole, a screw in the opposite side and press them together.

Do the same for the other 3 holes. You can be sure they don’t come apart by further pressing them together with a pair of pliers or just tapping them on top of a table with a hammer.

Fill the bags with a good growing medium. I use Promix BX but I understand it is not easy to find. Just  make sure there is no fertilizer in it.  Do not use Miracle Gro, the fertilizer they use kills the cuttings. Too much of a good thing?

Place the bags in the trays, water them. You can fit 16 bags in each tray. The trays are not waterproof, but if you want them to keep some water on the bottom you can seal the corners with a drop of Household goop (Home Depot Paint Dept. Purple tube).

Insert the bottom of the cuttings in the Hormodin, tap to remove any excess, and insert them in the soil with the buds facing up, so that the top bud barely show on top of the soil. Water again and you are done. Don’t let them dry out. The buds will open up within a week.

Take your trees outside whenever the temperature is above 38 degrees. You can even leave them outdoors overnight.

Do not add any fertilizer to the trees at this time. You will kill them. You can fertilize them after they are transplanted.

Low day temperatures (40-55) tend to stop trees from growing and they need to have a few days of warmer temps to get started again. All trees can be transplanted outdoors when there is no longer danger of a hard frost.

This kit has found its way into schools, academies and universities. I guess teachers like the easiness with which the trees can be planted and handled. 90% of my Forest in the Box sales are to schools of some kind.

Compared to buying live or bareroot trees, this way you will save a lot of money and will allow you to plant trees much earlier, and if you want to continue growing more trees, just order more cuttings. You could do probably 3 batches every year.

This is what you get:
100 2 bud cuttings.
100 plastic 1/8 Gallon bags
6 white plastic trays (fit 16 trees in each) shipped flat and fasteners to hold them together.
Hormodin 1,  enough for a few hundred cuttings.

All this for $77.00
