Root Trainers and Grow Tubes

As part of the arsenal of tools you need to grow small trees, you need to have specialized stuff such as the root trainers and the grow tubes. They all come in an assortment of sizes, but the main problem is, you have to buy a zillion of them in order to get them. Now that I have used them, I know what I will need for the next season and I am going to part with what I really did not want to buy but was foced to do it.

The roottrainers I purchased are the largest ones they make. I used them to grow 3 ft. weeping willow trees. They performed as expected. I will sell them for the same price I paid. The difference is, you can buy only one frame. They are reusable. I will sell only 15 frames.
These particular size of root trainers is called the "Tinus". Each cell is 1.5"X1.5"X8", there are four cells to a book and there are 10 books to a frame. Total, you can plant 40 seeds, plants or cuttings in each frame.

18 inch Privet cuttings growing in my greenhouse, April 18, 2002. Most of these plants are already sold. (June 12,2002)

Grow tubes on the other hand, are more versatile. They come in a frame where you can fit 200 of them, and as seedlings grow you can change the location of the tubes at will. This will help you organize your seedling. Very nice to grow something like Aspen seeds, you grow them until they are about 4 to 5 inches tall and then transfer them to a larger container. Each indivicual tube is 1 inch in diameter and 4.75 inches long. (3 cu. In.)

I have used these tubes to grow just about anything. I grew weeping willows, poplars, mimosa trees, red maple, silver maple, sequoia, butterfly bush, etc. This is where I experiment with cuttings of all kinds. The best part about them is that since each plant is in an individual container, damping off does not happen.

I am selling these by the frame. I will fill a frame with 200 tubes, and that is what you get. Again, I used these one season (not all of them) but they are in perfect condition. I purchased the best quality they have and the manufacturer claims you can use them for 5 to 7 times. They are UV stabilized.
