When you buy 9" long cuttings you will need the tool below (or something similar) to dig the holes. The cuttings are shipped from Wisconsin and the tool is shipped from Pennsylvania. Be advised, the cuttings must be inserted in the ground so that the top bud is facing up and that is all that shows out of the ground, in other words, the cuttings must be 8 inches deep. After putting the cutting in the hole, add some water to it, and use the tool to dig another hole 1" from the original hole, and push the dirt towards the cutting to remove any air pockets.
