Nurseries and Hybrid Poplars

You must ask yourself, why is it that I have not been able to find hybrid poplars in any nursery in the County?

Here are a few reasons I can think of, maybe there are more.

 1. Hybrid poplars trees are very inexpensive and cumbersome and it does not pay for them to carry them.

2. If they were to carry cuttings they would have to purchase refrigeration equipment to keep the cuttings from sprouting before customers rush in.

 3. If they were to carry trees (bare root), the trees would start growing and die shortly for lack of continuous moisture. Trees need special storage.

 4. Hybrid poplars cannot be propagated by seeds, only cuttings.

Thinking back, I remember visiting many nurseries about 10 years ago to offer them my cuttings. It was a wasted time, Some refused because they did not have refrigeration, others just did not like the name hybrid poplars... Did they feel threatened? I don't know.
