Help!
I don't claim to know much about hybrid poplars,
in fact I am looking for answers every day, and it is very hard finding
them.
When I was a youngster, I learned that the
nutrients for a tree are pumped by the roots up the trunk between the hard
wood and the bark of the trees and on to the leaves that do their thing
and make the tree grow. Do HP trees function that way also?
Some time ago I found that one of my trees
was dropping fuzz, indicating it was a female tree. I had to find
a way to make it stop doing that, so I decided to kill it. I could not
cut it because it is surrounded by other trees and it would get hung on
another tree, making the situation dangerous. Then I had a brilliant idea.
With the chain saw, I cut a band of bark off about 2 inches around the
tree, I figured this would do the job. So I waited, and waited... for 1
week but there was no change. I went back and this time I removed 2 feet
of bark around the tree, I was sure it would work because there was
only dry wood showing for 2 feet of the tree all the way around.
Two months later the tree is as alive as
it was 3 months ago and it still growing strong. How can that be?
If you have the answer this mystery please
let me know, I will let others know as well. The goal here is to kill the
tree (only that tree) without cutting it down.
I will appreciate any feedback on this matter.
