Some trees and plants will not grow over 6 inches in the small bags. After doing a lot of observing, I came to the realization that the plants that do not grow over 6" are the ones that have a tap root. As soon as the root reaches the bottom of the bag, the plant stops growing. This includes: paulownia, mimosa tree and others that I have not identify yet., however sometimes the root takes a turn and then the trees continue growing. Weird! The half gallon bags are 4X4X9 inches. Fill them to within an inch of the rim. These were designed for Perennials. The 1 gallon bags are 5x5x11 inches I use them for trees only, in fact I have sequoias and poplars in them. I am sending free samples of these bags, just send me an email with your name and address, and the word "bag" in the subject line. Please be sure the name is formatted so I can just cut it and stick it on an envelope. I will ship you all 3 sizes by return mail. The White Coroplast trays shown above fit 4 half gallon bags or 16 1/8 gallon bags and are available here. The trays are shipped to you flat, along with 24 male and 24 female fasteners. To assemble, first bend the large flap towards the inside (follow the creases) and then the larger flap over it. See photos. Insert a fastener in the hole in one side of the flaps and the opposite fastener in the other side and press them together. Now do the other 3 corners the same way. Reinforce the fasteners by pressing them together with a pair of pliers to just tap them with a hammer. The trays are not waterproof, however you can make them waterproof by adding a drop of "Goop" (Home Depot Paint Department) in each corner.
I use these trays mainly with 1/8 Gallon bags. My trays are not waterproof. I need them to drain as well to take up water because I water my plants from below only (unless it rains). Trees can stay in the bags for very long periods of time, right now I have many pruple willows in those bags, they have been there for over 2 years. By now the bags look like they are about to expode. Trees that have been in the bags for a long time may give you some trouble to take out. Cut off all the roots sticking out of bottom of the bag, squeeze the bag all the way around to give the tree some room and then just pull it out gently from the trunk while holding it upside down and pulling the bag up. It slides out every time and the root ball is solid. I do this often when I am upgrading trees to a larger bag. The last items on this page are for me a requirement. When I am using bags, I like to be able to open them quickly and I want the bottom of the bag to be flat, that keeps the bags from falling and spilling the soil. Also, there is no replacement for the scoops, specially the small one. It would take me at least twice as long filling the bags if I did not have these scoops.
Place your order below. I use USPS Priority Mail for all my shipments, that way you get your order within 2 days. I can put 500 1 gallon bags in a large flat rate box, 1000 1/2 gallon bags in a large flat rate box and 1000 1/8 gallon bags in a medium flat rate box. There is more room in most of these bags to put other stuff such as openers or scoops, so if you place an order that has other items, if they fit in the box I will put them there. The shopping cart will probably charge you for 3 or 4 boxes when I can put all of them in one box. Don't worry about it, I check every order so you don't pay more than what I pay. I will send you a refund when I charge your card, or send you a Paypal refund when the order is shipped. If you are ordering 1/8 gallon bags, I strongly suggest to buy also a bag opener or make your own. It makes the task of opening the bags much easier, the bottoms are flat and square and the bags will stand up by themselves. An idea! - Whenever a customer shows up I give them a tray to fill. They feel compelled to fill the tray which will fit either 16 small bags or 4 half gallon bags. I make my trays from 9x9x6 cardboard boxes (ULINE) cut in half. That helps sales. The trays are inside a large plastic bag to prevent them from leaking when they put the tray in the car.

POTATO BAGS....What? Yes, potato bags. You can grow your own potatoes in these bags. There are many videos and photos on the Internet showing you how to grow potatoes in bags. My system is, I hope better because it uses a taller bag. My bags are 7"X7"X36" 6 mils thick, made out of black LDPE poly. They have drain holes in the bottom. With some care they should last a few seasons. So, how do you use them? Open the bag and roll it up until it is only a few inches tall. See photo below
That is the hard part. Now put about 5 inches of dirt in the bag, add a potato, add soil to cover it and water it. Now place this somethere where it will not be disturbed. Inspect the bag often, every time you see shoots showing, add more dirt but don't cover the top shoot. If the soil comes over the edge, unroll it a bit and continue watering it, adding soil and unrolling it until the plant reaches 3 ft. tall. and the bag is completely unrolled. You may have to prop it up or stake it so it does not fall over. Allow the plant to flower. When the flowers die take the whole thing and empty it on a piece of canvas and collect your potatoes. Yes, save the soil to be used in some other project later, do not reuse this soil for potatoes. Potatoes have several "eyes". Look at a potato and you will see them. Each eye is capable of making a new plant so, if you want to make a lot of plants (more potatoes) you can carefully cut your potatoe so each segment has at least one eye in it. Now you can put them in the bag, but be sure to separate them. That is all there is to it. I started by growing some potatoes (papas criollas) from Colombia. Unfortunately I just found out they grow only at 2500 ft. or higher. I am at 500 ft. and my last potato plant just died, a month after I planted it.
I am also listing here the tomato grow bags, they are made with the same stock, but they are on.y 18 inches long
